Importance of these accomplishments:
Sir Francis Bacon, as a politician, quickly worked his way up into the ranks of
the English government and established himself as one of the greatest politicians
ever. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment and contribution to the Enlightenment
and the world today, in many of his essays, Bacon disagreed with Aristotelian
philosophy and Platonism, philosophies that he believed to be unable to discover
new truth. He stressed that data should be collected and analyzed to establish a
hypothesis and experiment and test that hypothesis in order to obtain knowledge.
He also stressed that people should overcome the influence of "Idols" and avoid
incorrect notions and misleading tendencies that distort truth. His scientific
reasoning, philosophies, and methods had sparked the English Scientific
Revolution and made him one of the most important contributors to the
modern scientific world.
